I'm surprised Akasaka is getting a True Syndrome card after they skipped Dark Awakening Akasaka, while characters like Teppei, Chisame, Tamura and Saionji got Dark Awakening. Although looking back I guess Satoshi also didn't get Dark Awakening but got True Syndrome.

Girl on the left with red cloth on head is Miyuki Akasaka (1993 version). Girl on the right is Miyabi Saionji, distant relative of the Furude clan, she's also the face of the antagonist faction right now, working for some unknown god to get her sister back. Center is just Shion.

As far as story, most cards with the cast dressed up as weird stuff are just metaphor or cosplay events... THIS is one of the rare cases where the story actually seems to play things straight though, with Chisame (crazy for sharks, Mei-only character, and not in any of those pictures, Miyuki's best friend whose father died investigating the Tokyo conspiracy, see pic for her) ends up in some weird pirate world fragment. The new Mei protagonists physically travel between worlds, rather than inheriting memories like Rika.
