>i believe punnet square genetics is an "all or nothing
As i wrote punnet square is fundamentally an educational tool. The nature doesn't work like this, specially in the color of the eyes. The colour of your eyes is the sum of hundreds of combinations. From pigmentation to the texture of your iris.
It is not so simple. For example Mendel is famous for his experimentation with peas, he studied the plants of the garden of his abbey and almost no one of his plants fit his theory. Almost only the peas. Why?.
Because the peas has 2 genes for every trait. Exactly like Punnet Square. That's why he could predict the traits of the peas statiscally. He knew he was right. But he didn't knew why the apple tree seemed to follow such a crazy pattern. He knew the power the heritage but it had not idea about something called gen. And even fewer would be able to statistically express trait patterns with 3 or more genes. What's more, there wasn't even the necessary math yet.
