For me it's a shining example of the majestic might of humans, what men can achieve when they ignore political bullshit and just work. We designed and built these mighty engines, an accumulation of hundreds of years of discovery and knowledge, from metalworking to the very laws of physics. We tame nature; level hills, tunnel through mountains and bridge seas to go where we want to go as easily as possible. Then there's the beauty of it; from the masculine, functional strength of a steam engine to the feminine, sleek aerodynamic lines of a Shinkansen. Then there's the sensation of it; the size, the noise, the speed, the rumble as it passes that you feel right down to your balls. And at the head of it all is a single man; a driver that is responsible for controlling hundreds of tonnes of refined and shaped metal hurtling down a track at hundreds of KMs an hour, capable of transporting hundreds of people and goods hundreds of KMs in a single day.

Like planes, rockets and robots, I look at these moving mechanical monsters and think "Humanity, fuck yeah!".

Oh and it snows there. Can't wait till winter.
