How should you dispose of a U.S. flag that's beyond repair?

My local government would not accept my old flag. What should I do to dispose of an old flag in a dignified way?

A young elementary school boy was in school, where the teacher was teaching History. The teacher taught that in European countries like Germany and England, you could get arrested for saying what you believe, because some countries don't have freedom of speech. The little boy raised his hand and asked "But what about the First Amendment?". The teacher said in a somber voice "They don't have the First Amendment in Europe."

So many people take for granted American freedoms like freedom of speech, not realizing that in other countries you could be put in jail just for talking badly about the government. This is why I'm proud to be an American.
