I think the typical Babymetal audience is the mainstream public who were more likely into pop than metal (considering how Gimme Choco is their biggest hit and arguably the poppier song) so that serves a bridge between the two genres.

However, I come strictly from a metal & punk background and now they're acting as a gateway to j-pop for me.

I actually like and appreciate the music that they make in Sakura Gakuin and for this is is like if I were a meat-eating carnivore for decades and suddenly became vegan.

The only j-pop I knew about beforehand was Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and even though I'm not crazy about her music, I think her aesthetics for her music videos is all right. I also knew about AKB48 but there's nothing special there it's your typical pop formula.

There is just something completely captivating about Sakura Gakuin.... anyone else discover them because of Babymetal?
