Not him but under the DoD you are under a contract. At any point they can make you move to any location. Granted if you have a Japanese Wife and Speak Japanese then you could argue with that and they may allow you to stay. But you're still under the cover of the US Government so most don't care about your feelings, just the mission

From personal experience with the military and DoD its better to start off with school, get in good with an American company that has offices in Japan, learn Japanese, move to Japan on a work Visa, get experience, marry Japanese girl and gain a "dual citizenship" and work there for the rest of your life. The Japanese don't recognize dual citizenship but they will NOT separate you from your wife and kids so if she's Japanese then its good.
