fwi silicone dolls generally cannot stand without screws either. the feet still compress and distort, but depending on the size and design it may be able to handle it for a bit. my DS cannot stand barefoot, but does just fine as long as they are wearing shoes.

Sino supposedly has some fancy thing they are doing, but i wouldnt trust it till i see it.

the screws depend a bit on the manufacture. some use just chopped off threaded bolts while others will have like hex heads or something flat headed. A few have little plastic caps they put over them as well, which i have no idea why other companies dont throw in some damn 15c caps for the screws.
