I'll start by saying that I have years of formal training specifically tailored to composing music for film and games.

"Memorable" is a matter of skill and effort. If you spend hours a day for years on end earning your chops then you can readily pull off things far greater than anyone who only makes small and sporadic efforts.

Substance must come before style. You can have whatever style you want, but serving your intended purpose is prerequisite. You're not going to be memorable to anyone if you fail to live up to the challenges of your pursuit and just make amateur cheese.
