I don't speak japanese at all also i've only been following 48G related stuff since march but heres my two cents:

i'd assume the non-jap speaking fans are more into the older members because of what is currently stubbed.

Like >>11500490 said stuff comes out slower for us so I agree with the it being hard to be super obsessed statement and in addition theres at least one news blog that twitters bunches of stuff about recent akb news

For example i'm (and i still don't know if i'm using this term right cause i think its a bit weird but) a Rena-oshi and thats most likely because alot of stuff shes in is translated into english. Things like AKBingo, Majisuka Gakuen, and Shuukan built a "base" of interest towards her for me. And again like >>11500490 said, on tumblr i follow people who do daily translations of her G+,Twitter, and blog so I constantly have a reason to stay interested.

I revised my thoughts a few times while i was typing this but looking back on what i hade before i think i would say i'm more a fan of a bunch members instead of the 48 groups as a whole just because of what gets subbed.

Its is kinda shitty cause I want to like more of the group. I like a bunch of the members in AKB and SKE but pretty much all the members i like in those groups are from the early generations in each group. In NMB/HKT i can literally only name a total of 5 people in both of those groups together just due to my inability to find a bunch of interesting subbed material for those two groups.
