I find that highly unlikely. Though he likely would blame Polaris, he's clearly far more attuned to the public opinion than Kisaku is, and would stick to mostly legal methods of opposing them, and let the police handle things, instead of gathering up a mob to violently throw out the cultists. He simply wouldn't want to throw out everything the villagers worked for.
Keitarou isn't really comparable since he was already shown to be paranoid of them before due to Marutake's unprompted ramblings, but he pushed those feelings away that time due to his friendshipfaggotry. Mayor Kimiyoshi is an old man who wouldn't make similar rash judgements.

It would be a little weird for this manga to suddenly have the mayor make a 180 on his mindset after establishing him as more level-headed. What would even be the point of putting him in opposition to his son if he's going to change dramatically five minutes later?
