tl;dr: Minecraft is only worth it if you find friends wanting to play with you, and you get a theme going. Try going for harder materials and patterns, I personally find Quartz and Glazed Terracotta to be nice together.

you can join a server but be prepared people on servers are 80% children wanting everything for free, griefing shit and unable to build anything else than stone-wood things. You get the occasional pixel-art but truly impressive shit in survival is few and far between. Played in a smaller server once and built a giant Miko, set up Economy by establishing a free marketplace, built all the hard farms including squids, blazes and guardians and made most of the loot borrow-able for players who need it but can't find it because the map was already looted. Basically I tried to make any building possible. It resulted in some stone-castles or "villages" full of wood-huts with the standards in interior, the highlight were some wood-ships I guess. Children got pissy when people were rich or had high ranks with playtime and wanted all of that immediately, "work for it" doesn't go well with zoomers.

The only upside were the few grown-ups playing it (incidentally also the admins of the server which later led to narratives that I was in cahoots with them) liking my stuff.
