I can't help but find her to be an interesting character in an interesting position.

For many of Gensokyo's normal residents she's the face of the SDM: The kind gatekeeper who will happily hold a conversation with you, whom you can walk away from not even realizing she's a youkai.

This, combined with being trained in the martial arts, implies a very unusual and un-youkai life previous to prior to working for Remilia.

On top of all this she's also a complete underdog, armed with a set of skills that upon moving to Gensokyo, became almost entirely useless. Despite that she doesn't let it keep her down, and maintains a bright and cheerful attitude.
