You may suggest another crossover, but I unironically believe Digimon fits a TON with Higurashi, it's like the seinen version without pets but ultimately it deals with the same themes of kids overcoming their trauma to unlock literal miracles. Keiichi with courage, Rena with friendship, Mion with innocence, that kind of crap.

And it's not really a joke, Digimon this last year got a +18 Visual Novel in some old village with horror, spirits and a shrine so you really can tell at their core they're very similar.
You can add creatures to the original Higu VN and the story would play mostly the same (now with added fights)
