I'm guessing she changed her name after switching management agencies since some of her early Madonna titles were credited as Ayumi Miura too (so it's not just about going from SOD to Madonna)
I also think it's a bit confusing and was not aware of Ayumi phonetically (I.e. irrespective of kanji) being used as a family name since my first impression of it would be as a forename. It kinda sounds less "real" in that regard and more obviously a stage name if that makes sense, dunno why she'd do that but I guess it's unique even if I don't think Ryo particularly suits her
What would have been more logical would be if she kept Ayumi as a forename but changed the kanji, then maybe chose a new family name which seems to be more common practice in the industry
