Yep, I don't want to face reality but unfortunately we're being overrun. Otaku culture is merging and becoming part of the larger normalfag culture, commoditized, easily palatable and samey in part because of creators trying to appeal to them so they can make as much money as possible.

There's also the fact that the Internet is now ubiquitous and made access to niche Japanese content much easier. No one today is roaming 2ch or weird nip sites and looking for obscure Japanese live webcams like I was in the late 90s to see "what it was really like". A waifu is just your current favorite character. Mahoromatic is forgotten. Morning Musume and Ayumi Hamasaki are a thing of the past. Comiket/M-88 threads on /jp/ are dead. It's all over.
