I can tell by your post that you don't read 2ch often enough because the best opinion has been that Mayuyu is the weakest SSK center so far, due to a number of reasons that include her self-limitations in image. Even leaving that aside the welcome from media was lukewarm to say the least.

If you expect AKB to comform or "return" to an archetypical idol image I'd say you picked up the wrong group to support, because they were never meant to be one since the first day. AKB's strength was always that of being fluid and multifaceted. If you know some of Yasusu's saying, you'll know how much he dislikes pre-established harmony (the actual Japanese word he said is 予定調和) because it kills the interest of the audience due to its predictability. Entertainment, especially idol entertainment, is in a constant need of some wow factor that'll catch people by surprise and you can say that he's at least kept his word about that.

You can still argue that Mayuyu may represent the normalcy in a sea of anomalies and in her own way is a break in the pre-established harmony, but you can tell by reaction that people expected to be blown away by something more.
I take that you've watched the last episode of AKBSHOW. Go to the A to Z countdown and see which other member got congratulated for her victory at the SSK, other than Mayuyu.
