>A Personal Matter / Kenzaburo Oe
>A Silent Cry / Kenzaburo Oe
Oe's works revolve around the birth of is mentally impaired son, not all of his books are about that, A Personal Matter is though. His writing style is oppressive and psychological.

Kobo Abe's books are weird to put it lightly, The ruined map has a very interesting way of telling it's story, almost as if the author goes out of his way to disorient you, a scene might show up in the middle of a conversation without any previous notice, or the main character starts describing some weird hallucination or some surreal impression he starts having about someone mid sentence. his most famous book is
>Woman in the Dunes
though The ruined map is also good.
I feel Yukio Mishima doesn't need an introduction
>Confessions of a Mask
>Forbidden Colours
those are good starting books.
You can also try Natsume Soseki if you want pre ww2 literature, this means no gay people, no psychological anguish and definitely no sex.
>Kokoro
>And Then
Are pretty good books.
