Giving him the benefit of the doubt and assuming that his settings are actually optimal, which is highly doubtful considering his track record, they will provide much more negligible gains in terms of saving time for someone who spends 3 seconds per card instead of 20 seconds.

By having only 3 fewer cards to review, someone who spends 20 seconds per card can reduce their rep time by 1 minute. For someone who spends 3 seconds per card however, their reviews would have to be reduced by 20 to make that same (ultimately insignificant) saving. 100 fewer reviews for a 20spc individual = 33 minute saving, for a 3spc individual = 5 minute saving.

Only reason Matt and his followers care about Anki optimisation so much is because their sentence mining method itself is extremely time inefficient, but they can't admit that and want to put the blame on Anki not being "optimal" instead.
