Don't agree with all points, but I do think it's primarily a manner of creativity vs. technical abilitiy.

For example, the Big Brother part in NYD 2019, which was very well received:

Looking at the composition at the editing level, it could have been very generic. Font based background with cliche (but relevant) quotes of the book, transformation and "low-effort" 3D effects with quotes of the song, and a lot of 2D transformation effects on existing Cookie assets that borrows from the original 音MAD. Even the audio could be accused of overly used MGR姉貴 UTAU.
The difference is the video author has a good creative sense of when to use them all for expression over just effort which complement the song. Most importantly, the "metamorphic heads" transformation sequence is a pretty OC concept that goes great with both with the audio and the general feel of both the song and the book.

Another great example is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eyoKF_YBxds&t=82s , using IRL editing to parody typical 音MAD composition. Probably took many less manhours to produce than any other parts and is less refined, but it's very refreshing.

"Quality" can really describe many aspects of something that's art, and I feel a lot of video makers feel the need to lean on technical quality over creative quality if it means making something that might not fit the mold.

Individual MADs outside of collabs still mostly keep on being creative standalone works, there are just less of them. The works of 自己矛盾 come to mind, for example:

Biggest thing is that less is being churned out, and that it has to either be heavily memed or be extremely original and high effort to really get notoriety these days. I'd say that's more on most low-hanging ideas and styles already being thrown at the wall, so new things with similar effort stand out less and hype dies down. Mainly a cyclical online culture thing.
