Oh, well if that's the context then I'd have to point out that whatever makes a story "interesting" has some subjectivity to it. I definitely think you could make an interesting story with that sort of writing prompt, given the vast history and many stories of catholic martyrdom in pagan countries (including Japan) that wouldn't be out of place in an environment like Gensokyo. Take the North American Martyrs for example; you had catholic priests having their fingernails ripped out, fingers eaten, boiling water poured over their heads in a mockery of baptism, eyes gouged out and then hot coals placed in their eye sockets...its not hard to imagine youkai doing things like that to Catholics in Gensokyo. Then you could write in how the Catholic Church then canonized new saints and dubbing them "Martyrs of Gensokyo". I think that makes for a pretty interesting story, regardless of whether you're sympathetic to Catholicism or not

Well if we're talking historical catholicism, that's kind of the point. It arguably wouldn't make for a very good catholic if they didn't want to bring Christendom to every corner of the Earth, including pagan Gensokyo.
