Censored Vagina mentioned that /l/'s death wasn't part of some anti-pedo crusade, but lolicon was always on rocky grounds to begin with. The PROTECT Act passed in 2003, the year 4chan was created. /l/ was one of the user created boards, and moot said that if there was any trouble he wouldn't hesitate to delete it. In the end it came down to a more practical issue of advertising and being able to accept donations.
