To be fair when you're new, I don't think the wiki explicitly says you can smash two fleets together in a event, so could be taken as faggity flowery writing over an actual mechanic. That or its assumed battleships are already bad at night, so why not if you don't have AP shell. But ultimately, I don't know and I'm just guessing. I used the dead wiki when I started, and that explained things a bit better.
