I don't want to shit up the thread by continuing with this topic, but you make the strongest point. Everything that makes 4chan an objectively great place to do this sort of thing would be lost with a Discord server. The culture of Discord also attracts power-hungry losers who love policing communication, from my experience. These threads are completely free of rules and you can say whatever you feel. This is a strong upside here, as most people in these threads are actually pretty mature and everyone is quick to snuff out stupid shit. Then still, no one has to know who anyone is, which is a good benefit in MOST cases, though maybe not when you actually want to know who people are. DMs are the only good way to go about it.

The closest thing to a good intermediate between the two would be some kind of IRC client, but that would give these threads less traffic, which would make me sad.
