As a free player, my rate of xp fairy gain has not quite kept up with the rate I collect gold and rainbow girls but it's pretty close, and levelling your core team is not much trouble. You don't really need to level silvers and below since they will be replaced by golds within a few months. I only started evolving my <=4*s six months ago after leaving them unlevelled for two years.

Aside from events the main time-limited thing you will want to keep an eye on is the current temporary revival. Note this one has 5 days, 12 hours and 1 minute left in this screenie. The most important thing to get here is the two flower stones, and getting those should also give you enough currency to buy the event equipment which is gone for good if you miss it (you can get up to three copies of each from the event, revival, and permanent). Event gear generally has the best stats and you need lots of it to equip all your golds and beef up your whaleship.

The revival girl herself is a lesser priority. Unless she's cute you can ignore her since she will be back as a permanent revival eventually and event girls are useless without all their skill and equipment slots unlocked. Grinding all that currency on a time limit while also dealing with the current events is a bad idea so I suggest just grabbing the time-limited gear then working on girls and their skill/dress-blooms from permanent revivals at your leisure.

Event girls have gimped abilities compared to gacha girls but having all equipment slots unlocked boosts their basic stats so they usually provide more power for your whaleship then a 1 or 2-slotted gacha girl. The first few event girls like Lavender and Eidelweiss are exceptions so grinding them out first is a good idea.

There are a few things like EX gear and Personal equipment evolution which are intended for older players as they provide very minor boosts for a ton of effort. They can be safely ignored for your first year of play. Likewise the early whaleship missions are good for the completion bonuses but currency efficiency is bad so whaleship can be ignored till you are stronger.

Grabbing Ampules whenever possible is a good idea for long-term strategy, since they are a bottleneck for maximising your waifu team's power.
