That's too recent. I'm talking more about the neolithic period and maybe early parts of the bronze age. Humans were still relatively young back then and we hadn't fucked up natural selection yet.

It all started going down hill when we started to form larger and more "civilized" societies. These societies sheltered the weak and allowed them to reproduce. Our strange artificial standards of beauty that we created throughout the years have also given birth to disgusting time periods where weak, sickly, and pathetic men managed to be seen as the most attractive males.

Look at some of the nobles and aristocrats of the past. They were sickly, inbred, and physically weak, but their position and power within society made them the most attractive males. Only the constant dangers of living in nature as we did when we were hunter-gatherers is appropriate for weeding out the weak and ensuring that the strong reproduce.

When civilized societies allowed inbred monstrosities like this thing to become King then it was clear that we were going down the wrong path.

The House of Habsburg is a cautionary tale in that regard.
