"Few humanoid creatures are welcomed in the face of the E², including both fairies and youkai that might pass as human at a glance like magicians. Exilies will often attack such beings either on-sight, or ambush them, and depending on the specific machines' capabilities, victims can be expected to find themselves either dissected alive with surgical precision (and no anesthetics), lobotomized and left a shambling husk of their formal selves, disintegrated, set on fire, melted, messily mutilated, or simply tripped or ineffectually pummeled by flimsy plastic limbs in the case of less capable robots. It is not known what happens to the victims' bodies in the case they are unable to escape their predicament alive, but the surrounding environment is typically kept rather clean after the robots are done with their work.

Tsukumogami, a type of youkai which is the result of an inanimate object being abandoned for an extended period of time, are often thought to be related to the Exiles in some way. In Japanese legend, all types of tsukumogami gain life and sentience on the 100th anniversary of their creation, and can range from harmless and friendly beings to horrifying vengeful spirits, depending on how they were treated and used. It is also said that modern electric items cannot become tsukumogami."
