Fisher actually wanted to render both Dreadnought and Invincibles obsolete with his next ship that featured armor and firepower of Dreadnought combined with Invincible's 25 knot speed.

Fisher thought about that during the Dreadnought's construction but the concept was ultimately rejected in favor of having 2 separate lines. From what I recall, the main reasons for Design X4's (10 12" guns, 25 knot top speed, armor comparable to HMS Dreadnought) rejection were
>use of untested triple turrets
>for the price and materials it would have taken to build 4 X4s britain could get 3 slow battleships and 2 battlecruisers instead
In retrospect, going for a universal fast battleship design probably would have been wiser.
