Oh, I forgot. The meter-long ones are always female (the males are still pretty large though - about a third of that size) so you can imagine the disease as a kidney worm girl sleeping soundly in her horribly agonized host. They can also have groups of a few worms on the same kidney.

Loa loa also has a rather explanative name, this time it is the eye worm. The worm does not live exclusively in the eye, merely slithering below the host's skin and occassionally passing through the eyes, which takes about 15 minutes of great pain. The death of the worm may also cause abscesses and itchy swellings may form wherever it passes through, but the animal is otherwise harmless.
