This has been bugging for a while: Why do Ka-class submarines wear these respirators? It's not like they need air to survive, hell, it's doubtful that they even need to breathe.

What happens when you deprive a Ka-class of her mask? Does she flail around in panic until she notices that she's the tortured soul of a long-sunken ship and can survive just fine in the ocean? Or maybe they are entirely aquatic and need their respirators to function out of water?

Or is it to hide that their lower jaws are dislocated or absent? Maybe the reason they're holding that Ro-class-looking critter with them is that the thing is actually what remains of their mouth, and they have to speak out of it. That would be rather cute. Or perhaps it's just a fashion statement and redundant respiratory gear are the in thing to wear for restless ocean-bound ghosts.
