where was it an excuse? different people love different sides of her, that's a fact, it's not that she'd be excused for those different sides dating different people (which they're not) but simply the truth that she shows different faces to different people and those people happen to have feelings for those faces in particular

the process is simple: genji knows about sayo's situation, he's the guy who does all the timetables for the servants so he specifically makes sure kanon and shannon are never on the same shift, all natsuhi does is yell at them to do this or that she doesn't stare at each and every servant trying to figure out any famillial connections she's too busy stressing herself out over and each every thing
"but what about the family conferences?" i hear you say - well that's pretty obvious too, natsuhi's too busy getting bullied by eva to notice how shannon and kanon never show up in the same room, and why would SHE be the one handling any roll calls on the days she's having to worry about her husband's siblings?
krauss doesn't give that much of a shit about the servants, he has NEVER given that much of a shit about the servants, why the hell WOULD he care or even notice kanon and shannon look similar?
jessica is the one character you can make a reasonable point of asking "why doesn't she notice?" and the answer to that one is a little more complex: she may have noticed, and just doesn't choose to mention it to shannon so sayo thinks she's getting away with it - she may have noticed similarities, but written it off as familial resemblance - she may not have noticed because she's too wrapped up in seeing one as a friend and the other as the faraway mystery boy she never really gets much of a chance to talk to - or she may not have noticed because she IS that dumb/bad at recognising faces
i swear this one ALWAYS gets brought up by people trying to make a point about how bad the shannon/kanon thing works in context, and i just have to wonder WHY they assume the entire ushiromiya family stares at servants trying to figure out if they're all one person like some kinda fucking psychos
certain other parts of your post i agree with, the whole "declare a personality dead and now you can say the person's dead in red" thing never really sat well with me, but at the same time i also disagree with the issue of magic events not being in pov - the fact you're suddenly NOT in battler's pov and instead in the eyes of some omnipresent storyteller is kinda meant to be the point of the whole thing - that's your hint that the events can't be taken as entirely truthful, as they are no longer being seen by the eyes of someone in reality, but not everyone got that and the whole battler seeing the butterflies thing probably didn't help which is why virgilia had to spell it out in the rewritten EP3 - i imagine land would've kept on without telling the reader with the assumption that they might eventually figure out that little nugget of information what with it apparently being very difficult for the reader
