Everyone knows Tengu only abduct humans to do the jobs they don't want to do and Tengu hate doing jobs below their station.
So you know who does most of the cooking, hauling, and other salt of the earth jobs? that's right, abducted humans.
The result is that the stench of man is unmistakable, they smell of sweat from hauling crates of goods around, meat and spices that they spend their days preparing, and the intoxicating scent of paper and ink for those who did the clerical work.
