I don't like pointing to a single example like this cause you know, it just takes a single disagreement for the point to be weakened infinitely.
That said, Shuuji from Akeiro hits close to the ideal for me. He really makes the game straight-up better for me by adding a lot of humor the dialogue a girl likely wouldn't have, as well as been a nice bro. Pretty much the only problem with him is that they make him very cowardly as an excuse to get him away from the main plot (which involves ghosts n stuff). In other words, from a comedy/SOL standpoint I remember him as a very solid and valuable male character, but from a plot standpoint he could use a lot of work.

Not sure how I feel about this but I think overall Akeiro remains my favourite 2016 VN even now
