Akiha is much better than other tsunderes because
1) her dere is deep and plentiful, and
2) the reason she hides it at all isn't because she thinks too highly of herself/lowly of you (like normal tsunderes), but because she believes Nissan will dump her on the spot if the truth of what their history is comes out.

So Akiha's in a bind: she loves Shiki, she can't fuck him because Shiki thinks they're siblings, and she can't tell him the truth because that would lead to him walking out/hating her forever or something else unpleasant. That deadlock puts her in a grouchy mood, which worsens when she sees Nissan in the company of other women (or thinks he is).

When she's tsun, she's it out of jealousy, which is much better than the normal tsundere treatment, being tsun out of arrogance.

(Note: Akiha is arrogant too, just not towards Shiki. If anything, she seems to think she's beneath what Shiki expects from a woman)

Akiha is a horrible woman.

But still not even among the worst ten in Nasuverse.

I guess the problems can't be solved, but most of the characters get good endings. Saber finally gets her wish to return to her own time, Rin never dies and it's implied she has a relationship with Shirou, and Sakura gets to be with all her friends and lover.

Most of the characters from Tsukihime can never be repaired or get a good ending. They simply had too much on their shoulders and could never really become normal again. With the case of Arc and Ciel, it's arguable to even call those two human. One has to sleep until there is a major problem and the other one is bound to the Church. The Tohno family is broken beyond belief. Most of them knew from the very beginning what was going to happen but couldn't stop it, or even tell anyone.

I suppose I just pity the characters in Tsukihime more. It's heartbreaking to see them all crumble and become insane and nothing could ever be done to stop it. After becoming so connected to them, it's hard to feel anything but sympathy and understanding towards them.

I always felt bad for Akiha. Everyone in the Tohno house is trapped in the previous generation's mistakes and she deals with the brunt of it all.

I'm not sure when it happened, I think it was during Kuzuki's first fight, when if you picked wrong Rin died and even in death she blamed you.

That's the difference between the two type-moon tsunderes. When Akiha dies, she apologizes for having been such a twat.
