Flip the paper sideways and write top to bottom, right to left. That would make a very basic kind of note paper. Each character should fit the width of the column and be about as tall as it is wide.
Proper writing paper is usually divided into square cells (one for each kanji), with spaces between the columns. It's also possible to have guidelines dividing each square into equal parts, to help with proportioning the kanji.
