I think it's more that the waifus just happen to be monstergirls. It's like how MGE just uses the theme of monstergirls to market this profile of a cute girl who'll love you forever unconditionally, etc etc. To back that up, look at the profiles which are just kind of plain human girls. They're not there to be monstergirls, but archetypes meant to appeal. And even if there's not that many of them, just the fact that KC was willing to release those designs proves that he's more concerned with making waifus than monstergirls. To avoid getting too off topic, that's just me supporting the whole "MGE just uses the MG theme to sell".
That's what I mean when I say that. That, based on my observations of how people in the thread act now compared to a year ago or more, the monstergirl thing isn't the focus anymore, but just kind of an incidental shell being worn by the waifu stuff. Or at the very least, the focus has very heavily shifted that way.

The shitposting and bait on the /a/ EMG threads was downright memetic. People were bad at how they dealt with it, and I suspect that there were one or two people who were zealously trying to wipe out those threads. But that's neither here nor there. One thing I know we have, though, which they definitely, absolutely didn't have, was moderation who gave a shit about deleting troll posts. /a/'s moderation hated us when we were there, and hated the EMG threads right up to the point when they were moved to /c/. With the exception of one janitor, we've had consistently on-point moderation.
So I've got two counterarguments. The first is that, if any EMG discussion were to happen here, the moderation would ban any futa or chicken webm posters so fast it'd make heads spin.
The second could be complete bullshit, but is based on this question which I genuinely don't know the answer to: are the EMG threads in /c/ attracting the same levels of bait and shitposting? If yes, then ignore this point. If no, then that's my counterargument. That the EMG threads themselves don't attract shitposting, and it was just assholes on /a/.

I didn't think about it that way, but that's fair. Aside from the "waifu shift" which I'm still sticking with, but I guess none of the MGQP2 talk has been chased away. So hey, you could be right about that change.
