They are being marketed as idols. There was a shitshow about homostars being left to rot because Cover doesn't market them/allow them to collab with their counterparts. I remember Miko's lines about being everyone's girlfriend, etc etc, sure you can say that it's tongue in cheek but if you consider everything she does, it's coming from somewhere. I am certain 35p can back me up on this and I'm curious where you stand on this issue. I remember Pekora asking her viewers what do they think if she collabed with a male (and the immediate akasupa expressing disapproval). Even Matsuri, the one who keeps on collabing with males, had to post something in her members only page about "trusting her" or some shit (the implication should be obvious). I remember Watame with the Kaoru debacle where a supposed collab was cancelled, right? Where afterwards there's some shitshow back then where she tried arguing on her twitter but I don't know what came out of it except there hasn't been any mention of it anymore except when anons are reminiscing about Kaoru.
That's what I know as a massive newfag. Surely there are others I'm missing out on. They are being marketed as idols, they are pandering to that sort of audience (which is why nijiniggers and wastes of space in /vyt/ sometimes call us idolbuta). This is what people have been talking about regarding difference in treatment between male vtubers in niji vs. homostars. The easy answer to this is that roommate != chuuba but they keep on talking about personal shit anyway, not even including low-hanging fruit like Matsuri or Noel but just general instances of breaking kayfabe (something people care about less and less), or that they are considered 2.5D.
What the fuck has changed so suddenly? It hasn't been that long.
