So I've been fooling a bit with the YouTube API today trying to figure out how to get the stream/video status for sites like jetri without raping the default 10 000 unit quota per day. If I understood correctly, you can use the channels API to first get the uploads playlist, then use the ID of the upload playlist to fetch the most recent videos using the Playlist API and then use the video API to get the status of the most recent videos.

You can store the upload playlist IDs, so you only need to query them once for the whole project. With this every call to get a single channel's most recent videos/streams would cost 2 units. Say you want to get all the JP holos (36), that would cost 72 units to fetch the current state of every channel. You could perform 138 of these fetches every day, so for example you could easily update the site every 15 minutes. You could fit the side branches if you dropped this to every 20 minutes or if you created a logic that skips the second call if no uploads exist in a certain time period.
