Anon I've literally just said my opinion about Higurashi and Umineko, and how I felt like Higurashi was much more formulaic and boring because >>33463258 said Higurashi was less boring than Umineko because every chapter follows the same premise. I think it's misleading because every chapter in Umineko has different things going on, in spite of them being based around the Rokkenjima Murders for the mystery aspect. My opinion is pretty standard and I don't know why you're accusing me of being like other people in this and other threads lol, the only thing I see in the other thread is people unironically replying to the Italian.

Again, it's left ambiguous. They're more 'real' than the fictions of the murder-bottles. but whether or not it's real is still left deliberately vague and up to you to decide. The events of the message bottle murders are undeniably fiction even in the context of Umineko, but I still think fiction-within-fiction can be impactful and compelling. Like off the top of my head all of the moments of Natsuhi caring for everyone and taking over as the head of the Ushiromiya family or Rosa trying to save Maria in her last moments are absolutely fiction written by Yasu but they were genuinely heartfelt and impactful in my opinion.

Kind of, even if this were the case I don't think it'd necessarily be a bad thing because discussion of the murder theories are really enjoyable and the logic battles between Battler and Beatrice are some of the highlights of Umineko for me, but also narratives are important. It's a novel. But even then I don't think it's just a sole vehicle for narrative or discussion of theories, again it the metaplot also has characters in themselves like all of the Witches who have their own personalities and backstories and are pretty compelling in their own right and the entire metaplot is about Battler's souls' journey to the Golden Land along with him remembering his sin right? Then you have all of the metastuff with Ange and how that relates to the catbox and Ange coming to terms with her family's death and etc etc etc everything that happened in Episode 8. So it's not just like them discussing theories, it's also pretty important for the characters and their arcs.

Are we using different words for what the metaplot is? Because almost all of Umineko takes place in the 'metaplot' right? If you cut all of the Metaplot out of Umineko it would be like 6 disconnected stories in which different events take place on Rokkenjima, and then the Magic ending without like the heartfelt goodbyes and the emotion of Ange keeping the catbox closed right? The metaplot wasn't like something that you could have kept or thrown out, the metaplot was literally central to all of the main character's arcs in the story. It's like cutting out all of the characterisation of Higurashi and then keeping the moments where everyone kills each other and then saying that this is what Higurashi is really about and that only a fucking idiot needs anything else.
