I've never really enjoyed human interaction, personally. Only with those much older, much more wise than myself. If I'm not actively learning something useful or interesting from it, it's no better or worse than playing video games or what have you.
I used to be quite social when I was younger, plenty of friends and parties. They were fun, but meh, not especially so. I got tired of being around people I only had superficial similarities to. In reality, there was no common ground. I was limited to communicating through humor and actions. These are fun, but it gets to be alienating, being in a group but not having a genuine connection with them other than being a fun guy. Anything actually said would be met with confusion.
So no, I don't really regret becoming a hikikomori yet. At least now I don't have to try and fit in if I want to do more than tell shitty jokes. Nope, I get to embrace my interests and ignore things I'm not interested in.
