Not difficult at all; the most important thing is keeping an open mind. I had studied Japanese in college and then on my own for a while before coming, so I could speak and understand it fairly well upon arrival. That's not to say you can't survive if you don't know Japanese, but it would make a lot of things easier. Ypu should definitely come check it out!
