K1's internal monologue is great because we're generally just as in the dark about what's going on as he is, especially in Onikakushi.
He can be dense about certain things (mostly during Watanagashi) but he does try to reason things out when he can, assuming he's not full schizo at that point.

The biggest issue is that they weren't sure if Higurashi would get a full adaptation(the VN wasn't even finished yet, of course). So then we got 6 entire arcs jammed into one season. All the best arcs feel rushed, other than maybe Onikakushi, which is actually adapted pretty well most of the time. It even needed that anime-original arc to fix shit.
I've thought about it, and maybe a ~50 episode anime could adapt Higurashi decently if they actually used their time well? But it would still be a stretch, and Ryukishi would need to actually give a shit and be involved.

Even so, no matter what they could've done it obviously would've paled in comparison to the VN itself, that goes without saying. But maybe it could've been a bit more respectable.

The scene where K1 realizes that Satoshi didn't run away like a coward, but disappeared while trying to protect Satoko and doing the same thing he's doing now? Great scene and one of my favorites from Tatari.
