I was studying for an exam, and apparently the air-writing behavior ("writing" kanji on your palm, the air, surfaces, etc with your finger) manifests in any learner, with rising frequency as the learner approaches fluency.
This happens in nearly all learners, regardless of whether or not they were taught it, and seems to manifest almost innately as a way of recalling characters.

It's fascinating that it seems like it's almost an instinct embedded in our brains. And it's not just a habit, it has shown to actually help with recalling the character, with the brain firing up as early as the first stroke is drawn.
I wonder in what other ways Japanese affects your mind, and if other languages have similar quirks.
