How does /jp/ read their visual novels?

Personally, I play through one or two endings forcing myself to use just one save-file before exploring other possibilities through the power of several save-files. I eventually look up a guide to cover anything I might have missed.

I heard from someone that reading the guide in advance doesn't ruin the game. Is that true.
