Confusion danced across the imposing goddess’s face as Hana couldn’t help but let the humor of the situation wash over her. Here was a miko-in-training scared out of her mind and crying like she was child again while being comforted by the god of a rival shrine, all because she entirely misunderstood the goddess’s feelings and panicked while assuming the worst.

As Hana’s thin laugh grew deeper her smile shone brighter along with it and she could see Kanako’s confusion morph into a slightly nervous smile, which in turn only made Hana more amused as she realized that Kanako must have thought her mentally defective. The two shared a laugh for good bit until Hana finally got the last one out of her system, it felt good letting out that stress and fear.

Hana wiped her eyes, clearing the last bit of tears from her fit as Kanako visibly relaxed, she seemed to ‘lean back’ as her posture slackened despite the lack of anything to lean back to. The confusion and panic on her face from earlier was gone and replaced by an air of thoughtful serenity as a thin smile lifted the edges of her lips and with a sigh softly spoke, “I may have been surprised to learn of Kirisame-san’s visits in secret to your father, but neither of you have earned my ire”

Nodding her head Hana felt a little guilty at ever doubting Kanako as she continued to express her thoughts, “It is true that Suwako and myself are in agreeance in banning Sanae and our faithful from going there and it is also true that we would discourage anyone from going alone, but I know that the both of you are noble in spirit enough to handle yourselves.”

A pang of guilt jolted through Hana at those words but she kept silent. Kanako paused before her next words, clearing her throat and and rubbing the back of her neck as a faint redness spread to the edge of her cheeks, “As for her personality change… I cannot say in confidence what is in her heart, she has little faith and cares little to entrust me with it. We do not share the link letting me hear her prayers and true feelings after all”

Kindness spread across her face with a tender smile as she glided a little closer to Hana, “However, no matter what troubles her I know that if you are patient with her and support her through this you may gain a powerful bond stronger than what you had before.” Hana nodded, that infectious warm smile spreading to her own face, “Consider it the wisdom of chief god of the Moriya shrine and protector of the Youkai Mountain, your love will be rewarded.”

Hana knew it wouldn’t be appropriate, but she couldn’t help herself as she ‘leapt’ onto Kanako’s chest. The young miko wrapped her arms around the goddess as the viper let out a sound rather uncharacteristic for a being of her station. Hana buried her face in the warmth and let out a muffled, “Thank you, Kanako-sama…”

Feeling a hand on her back Kanako spoke with a bit of that embarrassment from earlier creeping in, “Y-your welcome, feel free to come to me with your worries. Hearing out the problems of humans is the job of a god.”

Hana was proud to have Kanako as a friend and confidant.
