No one really plays these games for the gameplay; the main point of them is so the fans can have their favorite characters fight each other.

It's like the fighting games for Bleach, Mai Hime, Dragonball, Naruto, Fate/stay night, and lord knows what else. They all pretty much play terribly as fighting games and only exist for the fanwank.
