Did you know that ladybirds/ladybugs have names related to divinity in many languages that came to be independent of each other culturally and linguistically?
In English the "lady" in ladybird/bug refers to "our fair lady" i.e. virgin Mary the godmother, and other european languages are usually a variation on virgin Mary as well such as German Marienkäfer (Mary's bug). Frenchies call them Bête à bon dieu, God's beasts.
In Russian they're called бoжьи кopoвки - God's little cows and the name came before the spread of Christianity.
In Japanese they're called 天道虫, bugs of the heavenly path and were associated with Amaterasu.
I just thought it was interesting.
