Well it would take a shitload of skill if you've never made a garage kit before

For me, the introduction price and skill to enter this hobby are quite high. I had to pay a pretty penny to get all the right airbrushes, air compression system, paint, thinners, putties, wire, drills, face masks, sculpting tools, etc. You can't get cheap chinese shit for the important parts.
And then a lot of the garage kits you may want are quite rare and extremely hard to obtain unless you go to wonderfest itself. It took me more than 4 years of constant yahoo auction jp searching to find my favorite garage kit set.

Now you are talking about actual sculpting, like making your own figure or kit. You need to be a legit professional to pull off such a feat. I've seen a real good documentary about the creation of a anime figurine that was translated into english about the process, but currently forget it. Maybe someone else could link you to it? Regardless, it seemed like an extremely intense process that would take years to master. Focus on kits for now.

Try taking a sculpting class at a local art school first and try your hand at basic garage kits first. I'd recommend www.e2046.com/ to get some knockoff chinese kits to start with so you dont fuck up an actually good kit. /toy/ has many guides for getting into the hobby, especially in gundam threads. Also try googling it, that's where I found out most of what I know.
