It always fun to watch someone high and mighty be beating down and face failure.

Ran recovered from her shock. The HSE was no stranger to repeat visitors, but none of them brazenly announced their plans to visit seven days in a row! More concerning was the client: Many customers were rough with the “merchandise,” but Aya left Anon a mess. Ran had to help him clean up before the next session. What else did she have planned for the poor man? “I’m sorry, dear customer, I’m not quite sure we can reserve Anon for you for seven days.”

“That’s fine. I just need him for seven nights. The very last session before closing. I’d like to start today, please.” The tengu still had a glowing, confident smile on her phase. Ran couldn’t tell if she didn’t know how promiscuous her request was or if all tengu were this slatternly. “I know Yukari gave me free visitation, but I have money if I need to pay for the reservation.” No, this bird was an unrepentant nymphomaniac. “I believe I can fit you in starting today, Miss Shameimaru...”

Aya noticed that new on the leaderboards for the attractions, although one still dominated the rest. If she were here for any other purpose, the tengu would have photographed every personally-identifying trace of a visitor around. Instead, she just wrote down the names in her notebook for follow-ups. Her current investigation took priority.

The time finally came for Aya to approach the shrine grounds. Ever since she left his embrace, she was thinking of the best way to apologize for running off the way she did. Perhaps she would simply pretend it never happened and try to have a good time with Anon, showing him that she appreciated his company. No, she wanted to be honest. Maybe she would drop down in dogeza and beg his forgiveness. It would get the point across, but it also might weird him out. The tengu decided she’d simply greet him with a smile and apologize as soon as she had the chance, keeping the da-investigation nice and casual. Slipping one pill into her mouth and the other into her miko’s garb, Aya approached the main building and knocked on the door.

“I’m coming Darling!” His footsteps approached. Aya and practiced the line her head: I’m happy to see you again, Anon. I’m happy to see you again, Anon. The door slid open smoothly and the shrine husband recited his crowd-pleasing line, “Welcome home, dear.” The little tengu started bawling.

Anon was surprised to see Aya come back. After one of his more “active” sessions, she simply disappeared. It wasn’t uncommon for some of his visitors to be a one-and-done deal, but he figured the reporter would try to interview him again after she worked off the pheromones from Yukari’s incense. Seeing her brought up the same mix of emotions every repeat customer invoked: A comfort in familiarity, and a despair in seeing another person in his life fall to corruption. Yet, he couldn’t let any of it show. Instead, he would adapt to her new demands using his months of experience catering to the women of Gensokyo. He prepared for a variety of approaches the tengu may take on her second visit.

He did not expect her to start crying.

It took a while to calm the girl down. Between bouts of “I’M SHOOO SHOOOORRRRY!” and other incomprehensible apologies, Anon managed to sit the reporter down at the table and held her close. She clung onto him for dear life, holding tighter whenever he tried to move. If Yukari’s incense affected youkai differently, this was the strangest reaction he’d ever seen. All he could do was pet her head while accepting her apologies whenever they came up. Soon, her cries turned to sniffles and her tears stopped flowing.

He almost wished the rest of the night could stay like this.

Aya’s tears turned to shame as she came down from her fit. Her first impression had completely failed. It was nice to be in Anon’s embrace, but she found it awkward to keep hugging the man after such an outburst. “Th-Thank you Anon. I’m sorry you had to see me like that.”

“It’s fine, Aya. Sometimes we all have bad days and need a hug.” There it was, his forgiving smile and empty eyes. She wanted to pick his words apart, but that would have to wait. She needed to do something else first.

“Well, I wanna do something for you since you let me, well, cry on you. Can you let me go now?” The shrine husband let her go, just a little confused at her choice of words. The tengu walked over to the kitchen, remembering where the kettle and teas were stored. “Since I let your tea get cold, I wanna make you a fresh batch. This time I’ll make sweet tea, and I’ll make it right!” The tengu pulled out two differently-colored tea cups and made sure to drug the right one this time.
