lighting from the base it would look something like this. i'm not sure how well-illuminated the figure would become from bottom-firing lighting. this might have a nice effect in dim lighting but become completely unnoticeable in full lighting.

i might shelve the idea but i am pretty financially irresponsible so if i make any progress you'll likely hear about it.
