Might just be confirmation bias, but it does feel like there's a lot less Touhou fanart being submitted and doujinshi getting announced, while almost every artist who do fanworks have at very least touched upon KanColle recently.

Though I enjoy KanColle too, I'll miss Touhou if it becomes completely irrelevant. A doujin circle making a Touhou-related work have the choice between several dozens of colorful characters with their own unique designs, and they're allowed a lot of freedom of interpretation of each character, since ZUN doesn't assign a hard and obvious personality pattern to most of his characters. Kancolle has a lot of characters too, but as dictated by the setting itself, their designs are a lot more uniform. All characters have very obvious personalities that can be summarized into a few character traits, which isn't necessarily a bad thing in itself, but it allows artists to be lazy (i.e. when writing a Kongou doujinshi, make sure she's bold, energetic and inserts random English words in her sentences, characterization done). And what bothers me maybe most of all is how hierarchical the popularity of character is. The top 5% have 95% of the doujinshi. With Touhou, pretty much any post-PC98 character would get plenty of attention, but with KanColle, if you like a relatively obscure character, you're fucked.

Even if KanColle takes over in popularity, it will never take over in my heart.
